S
Project Title: War and Righteousness
California Content Standard 11.7.7: Discuss the decision to drop atomic bombs and the consequences of the decision (Hiroshima and Nagasaki).
California Content Standard 11.9.6:. Describe U.S. Middle East policy and its strategic, political, and economic interests,
Novato Unified School District Standards: Critical Thinking, Cultural Competency, and Character
Project Goals: Students give guidelines to the State Department about when the US should intervene militarily in global conflicts and describe limitations to war (if any) . These general guidelines are then applied to the civil war in Syria.
Learning goals:
Secondary question: How should the United States get involved in the humanitarian crisis of Syria?
THE BIG QUESTIONS:
You and your group are employees of the United States State Department, creating US policy in reference to foreign governments. You all are supplying your bosses, the Secretary of State and President of the United States with general guidelines about when the US should intervene militarily in global conflicts and whether there are any limitations to that intervention. Additionally and more specifically, how should the US intervene militarily in Syria?
Deliver your guidelines to the State Department with a video and a poster. The poster does not need to contain words. The video will contain the general guidelines about when the US should intervene militarily in global conflicts and whether there are any limitations to that intervention. The poster will deal with the Syrian intervention, specifically. The video and poster must contain a bibliography if any sources are used other than on this webpage. The video and poster will be developed, presented and evaluated by your group, the teacher, the class, and adults with military experience and/or policy and civilian experience. Parents will observe the posters during Project Exhibition Night. Students will also present a persuasive/opinion paper after the project is complete.
