About Me
"I need dark glasses, Mr. Spinrad."
Photo--Mr. Spinrad and Mr. Spinrad's Cat
I was born in San Francisco and have resided in the Bay Area for almost all of my life. I have taught world history, psychology, U.S. history, economics, government, Global Academy, AP US history, AP Government and Politics, AP European History, AP Macroeconomics, and AP Microeconomics at San Marin since 2003. Before that I served as Assistant Band Director at Kent Middle School, Kentfield, played, taught, and recorded percussion professionally, and worked in engineering marketing for 11 years. I have a Masters degree in psychology and a social studies teaching credential. I am a professional musician as well as a high school teacher and perform on drumset, cajon, and dumbek and compose jazz and have released two recordings under my name. My music website is full of good stuff. I also blog about education issues and parent five adult children and a very naughty "Mr. Spinrad's Cat." I am on a podcast as well.
Why this website
I composed this website (and continue to add to it) to assist in students' learning. Main topics and key PowerPoints are always available. The site is mine alone and does not necessarily reflect the opinions of NUSD, though it probably does. All my courses are in accordance with the College Board (AP), California State 1997 Social Studies Curriculum and Common Core standards, and APA standards.
How to take notes, especially for videos, here. Note taking in general, here.

Formula to determine how many points should be on an exam:
points so far _____________________ 1-fractional change Example 500/1-.20 = 500/.8= 625. So the exam should be 625-500=125 points |
